ASC in the News – May 23, 2012



ASC is pleased to announce that two additional professionals have joined the ASC Team: Senior Actuary, Valerie Lopez and pension industry veteran, Mary-Beth Smith.

Valerie Lopez, FSA, MAAA, MSPA, EA, has worked exclusively for actuarial consulting firms for the past 18 years with both large and small plan sponsors. Valerie will be working in ASC’s support area, primarily focusing on Defined Benefit plan issues, including our FASB modules. A graduate of the University of Texas, Valerie has performed Defined Benefit plan work ranging from plan design, implementation, administration, funding, compliance, reporting to plan terminations. “Some of my favorite projects were merger and acquisition projects,” she says.

In her spare time Valerie enjoys hiking and exploring music together with her 5-and-a-half-year-old son. She also loves travelling the world and claims to have an actuarial funny bone. “ I’m thrilled to join ASC. ASC has a great reputation in the industry, and I look forward to a long career here supporting current DB users, ensuring the quality of our system and assisting new users on board!”

“I’m pleased to have an actuary with Valerie’s knowledge and experience join our DB team,” Chief Actuary Diane Storm says. “With her knowledge and industry experience, she will be a great resource to support our users, as well as planning enhancements and new features for our software offerings.”

Mary-Beth Smith, QKA, has joined the ASC Sales Team as a technical sales consultant. A graduate of the University of Maine, Mary-Beth has spent the last 20 years in the pension industry, and has over 15 years of experience using ASC’s DC/401k and compliance systems. Mary-Beth joined ASC just last month and says, “Thanks to having worked with ASC’s products and staff in the past, I am extremely excited to be here and to work with prospective ASC users!”

Mary Beth resides in Old Orchard Beach, Maine with her husband and 18-year-old son. She’s an avid reader as well as her son’s number one fan out on the field where he plays various sports.
